The olive oil producing estate Le Macchie looks out over the spectacular Orcia valley, south-east of Siena and next to the towns of Pienza, Montepulciano and Montalcino. Assisi, Orvieto, Perugia and Arezzo are easy day trips. Whithin a stone's throw of the estate lies the medieval village Monticchiello where each year the population sets up a

"teatro povero" under the guidance of the parish priest. Our tuscany farmhouse is just a few minutes away from the principal medieval villages of Val d'Orcia, such as Monticchiello, and its Castello dei Cavalieri Templari, home of the renowed teatro povero; Pienza, the Renaissance dream of Pio II; Montepulciano, hometown of the distinguished humanist "Il Poliziano"; Montalcino and its exceptional wines; Bagno Vignoni, a breath-taking suburb developed around an ancient Roman thermal pool; Chiusi, Etruscan city of the VIII century A.C.; and Radicofani, with its fortress which dominates the valley.

To arrive in this our Tuscany farmhouse there is a kilometer-long drive off the main road which brings you from high on the ridge to half-way down into the Val d'Orcia --utterly spectacular, with Monte Amiata to the southwest, olive groves and farm fields all around, and the stunning clay outcroppings and ravines of the crete senese saving the landscape from unmitigated prettiness. The buildings of the estate date back to the 17th century. The apartments for rent have been renovated with great care and are for parties from 2 to 6 persons.
The owner of Le Macchie Andrea Giurato is a dedicated cook and will enjoy introducing you to the exquisite regional cuisine, for instance with a 4-course menu matched with a special selection of wines. Our three charming and exquisitely private apartments (sleeping two - six) can be rented separately or together by the week.

Val d'Orcia, rich in subsoil sulfur waters, hosts important and celebrated thermal centers which offer esthetic and healing treatments. A small distance away from our farm holidays the thermal centers of Montepulciano, San Casciano ai Bagni, Chianciano, Bagno Vignoni and Bagni San Filippo, are ideal for the relaxation and the care of the body.

For years Le Macchie has been dedicated to the cultivation of olives with the utmost environmental respect, producing the extra virgin olive oil our own olive oil d.o.p.,"L'olio Extravergine Le Macchie Terre di Siena D.O.P." which is exported all over the world - and is of course for sale on the estate. A sample will be expecting you in your apartment, together with a basket of fresh fruit and fresh farm eggs.. Our recently built swimming pool is ideal for refreshing yourself on hot summer days.
